Three Dugamuns all made for special needs students at Ridgemont High Scool in Ottawa

The first of these drums were built for children with disabilities that did not allow them to hold a djembe or ashiko in the traditional way (a seated position with the drum between their legs). Instead, these drums are free standing, so they can be played in a seated or standing position. This is the reason that these are great drums for kids, able bodied or otherwise. The openings at the base of the drum allow the sound to pass through. They are covered with brightly coloured fabric in kid friendly designs.

The name Dugamun came to Leo one day out of the blue. The word combines elements of Dundun, Djembe, and Conga, all drums which have something in common with this drum - They have the cylindrical shape of a Dundun, they have the goat skin of a Djembe, and they are played in a position like a Conga.

Leo has not made more of these drums since the first prototypes were completed – but he is anxious to do so! Please contact us with any inquiries or orders!

Dugamun         12” diameter by 24” tall - $250

Here are the three dugamuns built so far. Leo is anxious to make more of these drums and is open to suggestions. Contact him if you have any comments.
